My name is Kitty, and I completed my Yoga Teacher Training (YTT) with Jules in 2023. Becoming a certified yoga instructor had been a dream of mine for awhile, but I struggled to find a studio that was both flexible and family-friendly. Jules not only welcomed me but also embraced my children into her studio, creating a space that felt like home. For this, I will always be deeply grateful.

Before my training, yoga was a personal journey. My children occasionally saw me practice, but it was mostly done during nap times or in stolen quiet moments. However, during my YTT with Jules, my children, especially my daughter, became captivated by yoga. They begged to join me at the studio, and Jules, welcomed them with open arms. We often joked about her “completing the training with me” as she soaked in so much from watching and participating. Even now, she guides me through flows at home, and we reminisce about her time in the studio. Yoga evolved into a family practice, deepening our bond and embedding a healthy, mindful lifestyle into our daily lives.

Jules also provided a sense of community and belonging that my family and I looked for after moving to Florida without a support system. She herself, as well as the studio she ran, was welcoming and caring. Her teaching style was different than the yoga I had previously practiced and I enjoyed it. She provided a lot more meditation and pranayama that helped foster my practice. While my practice had initially been rooted in the physical, Jules opened my eyes to the mental and spiritual aspects of yoga. Her emphasis on meditation and pranayama helped me balance my emotions postpartum, become a more patient and present mother, and reconnect with myself. I found contentment in my role as a mom while rediscovering who I was as an individual.

Physically, Jules also transformed my practice. She has an incredible gift for seeing exactly what is happening in someone’s body, whether they’re compensating for an injury, lacking strength, or needing to push deeper. Her insights helped me better understand my own body and how to move safely and effectively.

One of my favorite parts of Jules’ classes was her dynamic vinyasa flows paired with deep, intentional meditations. Her cues were clear, precise, and always struck the perfect balance between safety and creativity. I still smile when I think about her infamous transition from chair to boat pose, where she’d encourage us to “sit a little deeper” just as we thought we couldn’t hold on any longer—eliciting plenty of jokingly “evil eyes” from her students.

Some of my most treasured memories are of Jules working with my daughter. She went out of her way to include her, even hanging silks for her to play and learn with. These small but significant gestures turned yoga into something special not just for me but for my entire family.

Thanks to Jules, my yoga practice has grown from a personal hobby into a lifestyle. She taught me that prioritizing mental health leads to physical well-being. For years, I was focused on my weight, particularly after having three kids, but Jules helped me shift my focus to consistency, happiness, and overall contentment. As a result, I’m in the best shape of my life—stronger, healthier, and more resilient than ever. I’ve even accomplished goals I never thought possible. On my first visit to Zion National Park, I struggled to hike just a few miles into the Narrows. A few years later, I returned and not only hiked the Narrows but also completed the challenging Angels Landing trail.

I am profoundly grateful for Jules’ presence in my life. She showed me acceptance in a town where I struggled to find my place and taught me invaluable lessons about both the physical and mental aspects of yoga. Without her, my yoga journey—and my life—wouldn’t be where it is today. Her kindness, wisdom, and unique teaching style continue to inspire me, and I incorporate many of her teachings into my own classes. I look forward to learning more from her in the future and hope our paths cross again. Jules is truly a beautiful soul, and I am lucky to have been her student.
